2)  SORTING. This is where SonicAwareness shines! Once you have selected a genre of interest, you will obtain access to the Music Index. At first glance, the index displays all the artists and bands that are associated with the specific genre you selected.

The artists and bands are sorted alphabetically by name, from A to Z. Beside each artist/band name is information that relates to each specific band. This includes genre, influences, and the date the date music was first posted by the band/artist.

At this point, you may select any artist or band that interests you. However, you may not be happy with the way the artists and bands are currently listed. After all, you probably have never heard of these musicians and are totally unfamiliar with their music. You know that you’re interested in the style of music they play, but you wish you could sort them further.

No problem! SonicAwareness allows listeners to sort in a variety of ways. This includes sorting by artist/band name, song title, or influence. All of the sorting may be done alphabetically That may sound complex, but trust us, it’s really easy, keep reading!

To sort by artist/band name all you have to do is click on "Band Name". Doing this will organize the bands in alphabetical order. Clilcking on the same link a second time will organize the bands in reverse alphabetical order. In other words, you can sort from A to Z or from Z to A. This allows for easy navigation through what is likely to be a large list of musicians.

Alphabetical listings are not restricted to artist and band names though. You can also use alphabetical listings to sort by song titles and by influence.

When you sort by song title, you will be able to see all the songs available on SonicAwareness within a specific genre. Again, you are not restricted to the traditional A to Z format. This feature is particularly helpful when you are searching for a song you liked, but can’t remember the name of the artist or band that played it.

If after all this sorting you're still not satisfied, the best thing to do is to narrow the field of musicians available in the genre you selected. You can do this by clicking on "Search By Sub-Genre". A Sub-Genre is simply a style within a style. For example, a Sub-Genre of Rock would be "Progressive Rock".

Clicking on "Search By Sub-Genre" will bring you to a search form, where you can select from a range of sub-genres that relate to the genre you previously selected. This will effectively narrow the list of musicians presented. The search form will also let you input a specific band name, influence, or song title!

Using chronologically (Time)is another great way to segment the music and musicians on SonicAwareness. This enables you to see who is new to SonicAwareness, and who is a seasoned veteran. All you have to do is look at the date that each musician joined SonicAwareness!

When all is said and done, SonicAwareness gives you a number of ways to sort, segment, and zero in on the music you want to listen to. Once you find the musician or song you’re looking for, simply click on the accompanying link in order to go to the Listening Room.
