Dorje
Years together: since birth Origin of band/artist: Born September 23rd, 1974, in Boulder, Colorado, Mikey Halpern was given the middle name Dorje, a Tibetan word meaning "Thunderbolt", by the renowned Buddhist teacher Chogyum Trungpa Rinpoche. Dorje has travelled across North America and has spent six years in Asia. He now lives in Toronto, Canada.
Dorje has had a passion for music and art since before he can remember. He is a prolific songwriter, musician and producer who has been performing and producing music since the age of 15, playing guitar since the age of ten and writing music at an even younger age. He studied classical guitar and music theory in his teens at the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music and has worked with very talented people such as Tara Slone (former lead singer of Joydrop), Bryden Baird (trumpet player for Esthero), Darren Shearer and Dan Kurtz (The New Deal) and Lawrence Currie (Producer for Sloan). He has composed music for award winning film producers Human Scale Productions and has worked with internationally known DJ crew Poundhouse. Dorje has also written and produced music for various other artists such as an EP he produced for the band Plum Tree, which directly led to them signing a record deal and becoming known across Canada, or the song "Anyway", which he wrote for the band Soho Kitchen, and was used by Molson Canada as a widely distributed promo song.
Whether Dorje is collaborating with other artists, writing music for film or his own projects, performing live with a band or as a one man live digital act, it is always a sonic journey that will catch your attention and expand your musical horizons.
